Yana Kalmyka is a sophomore in the School of Industrial and Labor Relations, minoring in Inequality Studies and Crime, Prisons, Education, and Justice (CPEJ). She is a recipient of the Telluride scholarship and ILR’s 2019 “Technology and the Evolution of Work” research grant. On campus, Yana organizes around labor rights with the People’s Organizing Collective and is a research assistant for a professor in the Government department, studying post-incarceration re-entry programs. In the Ithaca community, Yana volunteers with the Tompkins County Workers’ Center. She is also the Director of Research for education policy non-profit IntegrateNYC and aspires to use a legal lens to fight for equity in public education after law school. In her spare time, you can find her writing poetry and color-coding her Google calendar.
